10th Annual Harvest Fest

    The Harvest Fest signs are popping up all over.  The giant pumpkins are doing their last growth spurt.  The 86-foot lift is being readied for the trip to Sodus’ Main Street.  The over 75 vendors are gathering their goods.  The cars are being polished for the Show and Shine car show.  The scarecrow parts are being gathered for assembly.  The Bounce House is ready to be inflated.  The wagon is ready for the passengers.  YUP, the 10th Annual Harvest Fest on Main Street in the village of Sodus is ready for September 30.

     YUP, the largest pumpkins you’ll ever hope to see will be on display.  Entries must be unloaded at on Friday, September 29 on Main St between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm to be entered in the contest.  They will be loaded on a wagon and kept at a secret and secure location then brought to Main Street for display on Saturday.  At 2:30 pm the official weighing will be conducted with cash prizes and trophies awarded for first, second and third place announced.  We’ll have to wait and see what Mother Nature is doing to the pumpkins this year and just how big they will get.  Smaller pumpkins will be dropped from the 86 ft lift every half hour starting at noon and we’ll save a large pumpkin for the end the festival at 4:00 pm.  For more information, or to arrange to have your pumpkin picked up, email the chamber at chamber14551@yahoo.cpm or call the Chamber at 315-576-3818.

    YUP, the Apples to Zucchini Carving Contest entries are always a marvel to look at and even more fun to create.  Anyone from Kindergarten to 99 years old may enter. It may be from any type of produce, pumpkins, watermelons, apples, squash, or whatever is in season. First and second place in each age group will receive prizes compliments of Reliant Credit Union, and all entries will receive a ribbon.  Age groups are: Grades K-4, Grades 5-8, Grades 9-12, and adults.  Entries must be brought to the Chamber Tent (on Maple and Main) on September 30, no later than 10:00 a.m.  They will be on display and judging will be completed by 1:00 p.m. when awards will be announced (entries must be picked up no later than 3 pm).

     And YUP, there will be many different types of food, including homemade saucijzens from St John’s, fresh coffee, hot dogs at the Presbyterian Church, Sodus Firemen Chicken BBQ (pre-sale tickets, noon till 2p.m at $10.00 each), pulled pork and more. Entertainment includes the Jump Start Barber Shop Quartette, Strike It Up Dance Studio, and Tuned Ink with music from the ‘60’s and ‘70’s.  Picnic tables compliments of the Sodus Fire Dept will help you enjoy all of this.

     YUP, the Show and Shine car show (on West Main) will be bigger than last year. If you have a vehicle that you want to show off, bring it! Be it vintage, muscle, old, new or even a truck or motorcycle, so the crowds can appreciate and admire.   No rules, no prizes, it’s just for the satisfaction of having a great looking vehicle.  And special commemorative dash plagues to the first 50 registered!  It is suggested that you get there early and contact us for directions since streets will be closed for traffic.      YUP, you should join us on September 30 from 10 to 4, rain or shine on Main Street in the Village of Sodus for a family fun day.  Businesses that are normally open on Saturday will be open and they hope you’ll stop in as you enjoy seeing old friends and meeting some new ones.   More information may be found on or by calling the Chamber at 315-576-3818.
